A Web of Lies
Laura left Caleb with her trusted sister and rushed home, her mind a chaotic storm of anger and disbelief. She waited in the silence of her pristine living room until her husband, Richard, returned from his prestigious law firm. The moment he stepped through the door, she confronted him, thrusting her phone in his face with the photo she had secretly snapped of the homeless boy, Cody.
"Who is this, Richard? Tell me the truth!"Laura demanded, her voice cracking under the weight of her tears.

Richard’s eyes widened in brief, unmistakable panic before his polished professional mask slipped back into place. He scoffed, trying to brush her off.
"Laura, don't be ridiculous. He's just some street kid who happens to look like Caleb. Seattle is full of runaways."
But Laura wouldn't let him escape. She described the pewter locket and the inscription. Seeing that he was cornered, Richard’s demeanor darkened. He grabbed her arm, pulling her into his private study, and locked the door.
"You have no idea what you are digging into, Laura,"he hissed, his voice dropping to a menacing whisper.
"I did what had to be done to secure our family's wealth and inheritance. My father would have disinherited us if he knew about... the complications. If you stir this pot, we lose everything. Keep your mouth shut."
Horrified, Laura realized her husband had sold or abandoned their second child to satisfy his family's greedy demands. The next morning, determined to rescue her lost son, Laura returned to the downtown street corner. But Cody was gone. In his place stood a tall man in a dark suit. He stepped out of a black SUV, blocking her path.
"Mrs. Vance, your husband highly suggests you stop looking,"the man warned coldly.
"For Caleb's sake, go home."Just then, her phone buzzed with an anonymous text: "We have the boy. If you want him alive, do exactly what we say."
