Previously: After being wrongfully convicted of a crime her sister committed, Sarah faces her worst nightmare in prison—until she realizes her silent, terrifying cellmate knows the truth.

For three days, the silence in Cell 412 was absolute. Sarah kept to her bunk, weeping softly into her thin pillow, while Claire remained an enigmatic, silent shadow. But on the fourth night, the prison erupted into chaos. A riot in the lower block triggered a facility-wide lockdown. The overhead lights flickered and died, replaced by the ominous, pulsing red of the emergency beacons.

In the crimson-stained darkness, Claire finally moved. She stood up from her bunk and approached Sarah. Sarah shrank back, her pulse spiking. But Claire didn't strike. Instead, she reached into her prison scrubs and pulled out a crumpled, yellowed photograph, pressing it into Sarah's hand.

Sarah squinted at the image under the flashing red light. Her breath caught. It was a photograph of her twin sister, Rebecca, smiling on a luxury yacht next to a wealthy, older man.

The Shared Enemy

‐That is Arthur,‑

Claire whispered, her voice raspy from years of disuse.

‐My ex-husband. The man I allegedly tried to kill. And the man your sister is currently sleeping with.‑

Sarah stared at her cellmate in utter disbelief. The puzzle pieces of her betrayal began to slam into place. Rebecca hadn't just framed Sarah for the three-million-dollar embezzlement scheme out of greed; she had done it in collusion with Arthur to eliminate both Sarah and Claire from their lives.

‐They wanted us both locked away,‑

Claire explained, her eyes burning with a cold fire.

‐With me in here for attempted murder and you framed for theft, they inherit everything. But I have proof. A ledger with Arthur's real offshore accounts and your sister's signature. It's in a safe-deposit box, but only my estranged daughter, Chloe, has the key. And she refuses to speak to me.‑

The stakes were suddenly life and death. Before Sarah could process the revelation, heavy footsteps echoed in the corridor. The guards were coming, and Claire whispered a final, terrifying warning: she was scheduled for transfer to a maximum-security facility at dawn. If they didn't reach Chloe tonight, they would both rot in prison forever.
