The heavy velvet drapes of the Sterling mansion sitting room seemed to swallow the afternoon light, casting long, ominous shadows across the polished mahogany floor. Inside this temple of old money and unyielding privilege, twenty-nine-year-old Laura knelt on the cold ground. Her dark hair, usually pinned in a neat, professional bun, was beginning to fray. She clutched her six-year-old daughter, Alice, who was sobbing uncontrollably into her mother’s worn apron.

Standing above them like judges in a high court were Evelyn Sterling, draped in a shimmering emerald green satin gown, and her son, Jonathan, who wore a navy v-neck sweater that matched the coldness of his eyes. Behind them, standing in the shadows, was Charles, the elderly butler whose stoic expression betrayed absolutely nothing.

"You stole from us!" Evelyn shouted, her voice echoing off the high ceilings as she pointed an accusing finger at Laura. "We brought you into our home, trusted you with our most precious belongings, and this is how you repay us?"
"I would never betray this family, Mrs. Sterling! I swear on my daughter's life, I didn't touch your necklace!" Laura cried out, her voice cracking with desperation.

Jonathan crossed his arms, his posture rigid and unyielding. He didn't even look at Laura as he spoke.

"Just get her out of here, Mother. We don't need this drama," Jonathan stated flatly.
"Get out. No excuses," Evelyn commanded, her gaze icy.

Just moments earlier, Charles had shown them the security footage. On the black-and-white monitor, a blurry figure wearing a maid's uniform could be seen slipping Evelyn’s diamond necklace into a pocket. The height, the hair, the uniform—it all pointed directly to Laura. But as Laura was escorted out of the mansion into the pouring rain, she caught a fleeting glimpse of Charles’s face. There was a faint, sinister glint in the old butler’s eyes that made her realize she was being framed.
