Previously: When transit guard Thomas accused Lieutenant Marcus Hayes of wearing a fake Navy uniform, he wanted to humiliate him. But a sudden intercom announcement turned the tables in front of a stunned crowd.

The Escalation of Malice

For a brief second, Thomas stood frozen, his hand hovering near his holster as the reality of the intercom announcement sank in. The whispers from the crowd quickly shifted from suspicion to mockery. However, instead of apologizing and backing down, Thomas’s face flushed a deep, angry red. His embarrassment quickly twisted into a desperate, dangerous rage. He could not accept being publicly humiliated.

"This is a trick!" Thomas shouted, his voice cracking as he glared at the onlookers. "He probably has a buddy in the security booth! Show me your military ID right now, fraud!"

Marcus kept his movements slow and deliberate, reaching into his inner pocket to retrieve his official military credentials. But Thomas, consumed by panic and spite, lunged forward. He grabbed Marcus’s arm again, claiming the officer was reaching for a weapon. He attempted to tackle Marcus to the concrete floor, sparking a wave of panic among the bystanders.

Before Thomas could pin him, three armed military police officers and the station’s chief of security burst through the crowd. They quickly neutralized the situation, pulling Thomas off Marcus and pinning the aggressive guard against the very same pillar he had used to assault the Lieutenant. The lead military officer immediately turned to Marcus and saluted.

"Are you alright, Lieutenant Hayes?" the officer asked, his voice firm and respectful.

Marcus nodded, brushing the dust off his pristine uniform. As the chief of security placed Thomas in handcuffs, the bitter guard spat on the floor, his eyes locked onto Marcus’s name tag. A sinister smile crept across his face.

"I know exactly who you are, Hayes," Thomas hissed. "You’re just like your old man, Captain Arthur Hayes. He ruined my career, and I was going to make sure I ruined yours."

The revelation struck Marcus like a physical blow. This was not a random act of suspicion. Years ago, Marcus's father had court-martialed Thomas for gross misconduct, leading to his dishonorable discharge. Thomas had nursed a bitter grudge for over a decade, waiting for a chance to exact his revenge on the Hayes family.
