Previously: When security guard Arthur slammed Navy Lieutenant Marcus Hayes against a concrete pillar accusing him of wearing a fake uniform, he thought he was a hero. But a sudden PA announcement changed everything.

A Ghost from the Past

The silence in the station was deafening as Arthur slowly lowered his hands, stepping back from Marcus. The surrounding crowd began to whisper, their hostile glares shifting from the Navy officer to the trembling security guard. Marcus straightened his uniform, smoothing out the fabric where Arthur had grabbed him. He stared at the guard, but as the initial rush of adrenaline faded, Marcus looked closer at Arthur's face. A shocking realization washed over him. This wasn't just an overzealous security guard; this was a man from his past.

Years ago, before Marcus joined the Navy, Arthur had been a corrupt business partner of Marcus’s father. Through embezzlement and a web of lies, Arthur had destroyed the family business, driving Marcus’s father into bankruptcy and an early grave. It was that very tragedy that had forced Marcus to enlist in the military to support his grieving mother and younger sister. Now, years later, destiny had brought them face-to-face again.

Arthur stared back, and as Marcus stood tall, the guard's eyes widened in recognition. "Marcus?" Arthur whispered, his voice shaking with a mixture of fear and guilt. "It’s you..."

Before Marcus could respond, the station manager and two armed military police officers pushed through the crowd. The manager looked at Arthur with absolute fury, demanding an explanation for the public assault on an active-duty officer. The military police stepped in front of Marcus, saluting him respectfully.

"Lieutenant Hayes, is this man harassing you?" the lead MP asked, his hand resting on his holster. "We can have him arrested and charged immediately."

The station manager nodded quickly, adding, "He will be fired on the spot, Lieutenant. This is completely unacceptable behavior." Arthur looked at Marcus, his face pale and eyes pleading. He knew he was entirely at Marcus's mercy. One word would ruin his life, serving as the perfect revenge for what Arthur had done to Marcus's family all those years ago.
