The sun streamed through the high concrete arches of the bustling transit terminal, casting long shadows across the crowded floor. Lieutenant Marcus Hayes adjusted the heavy strap of his duffel bag on his shoulder. He was exhausted, having spent the last forty-eight hours traveling from an overseas deployment. All he wanted was to catch the next train home to see his daughter, Sarah, who was getting married the next morning. He wore his pristine Navy dress whites, every medal aligned perfectly, representing two decades of sacrifice.

Suddenly, a rough hand grabbed Marcus’s shoulder, spinning him around with violent force. Before he could react, he was slammed against a cold concrete pillar. The impact rattled his bones, and several nearby commuters gasped in shock. Standing before him was Thomas, a stern, clean-shaven security guard of fifty-three, whose face was twisted in anger.

"Fake uniform!" Thomas shouted, his voice echoing through the terminal. "Here, we take impersonating military personnel very seriously."

Marcus kept his composure, though his eyes narrowed. "Take your hands off me, officer," he said, his voice calm but commanding. But Thomas only sneered, grabbing at the medals on Marcus's chest, convinced he had caught a fraud. The crowd began to circle, whispering and pointing their phones. Just as Thomas reached for his handcuffs, a loud static buzz cut through the air. A powerful voice boomed over the public address system.

The terminal fell into a dead silence. Thomas froze, his hand trembling as he stared at Marcus. The anger on his face instantly melted into sheer shock and regret as he realized the grave mistake he had just made.
