Previously: When an overzealous transit security guard publicly accuses a quiet passenger of wearing a stolen military uniform, a sudden announcement over the station speakers turns the tables instantly.

A Ghost from the Past

The silence that fell over the terminal was absolute. The travelers who had been whispering moments before now stared in stunned silence at the security guard, whose hand was still frozen on Marcus’s wrist. Thomas’s chest heaved, his eyes darting frantically from the PA speaker back to the stoic face of the officer he had just assaulted. The arrogant sneer was entirely gone, replaced by a cold, paralyzing fear.

Marcus gently but firmly pulled his arm away from the guard’s grasp, adjusting his white cap. But he didn't just walk away. As he looked closely at Thomas’s face, a sudden, shocking realization washed over him. The mustache and the years of aging had hidden it, but those eyes were unmistakable. This wasn't just an overzealous guard. This was Thomas Vance, a man Marcus had been searching for over fifteen years.

"You..." Marcus whispered, his voice dangerously low. "You're Thomas Vance. You served in the Gulf with my brother, Arthur."

Thomas took a step back, his boots squeaking against the polished floor. His hands began to shake visibly. Years ago, during their deployment, a massive shipment of military supplies had gone missing. Arthur, Marcus's older brother, had been wrongfully accused and dishonorably discharged, his life and reputation ruined. The real culprit, a logistics officer named Thomas Vance, had deserted, changed his name, and vanished into the civilian world, leaving Arthur to carry the shame until the day he passed away.

Just then, three heavily armed Military Police officers, led by a stern Navy Captain, marched through the crowd. They had been sent to escort Marcus to a special commendation ceremony, but they arrived to find a crime scene. Seeing the MPs, Thomas panicked, turning to run toward the exit. But the civilian terminal security was already closing in, alerted by the commotion. "Detain him," the Navy Captain ordered, his voice echoing through the terminal. Thomas was tackled to the ground, his face pressed against the very concrete where he had tried to humiliate Marcus.
