The Guard Suspected an Old Woman, But What He Found Inside Her Bicycle Changed Everything
Previously: When a strict border guard suspects a sweet elderly woman of smuggling contraband, he dismantles her vintage bicycle and uncovers a heartbreaking secret that changes everything.
The Hidden Fortune
The next evening, the air was thick with humidity as a storm brewed on the horizon. David waited. When the creak of the vintage bicycle finally echoed down the road, he didn't hesitate. He stepped out of the cabin, his posture rigid. As Helen approached, he noticed her hands were shaking even more than usual. The heavy burlap sack sat securely on the rack of her bicycle.
"Step into the inspection bay, Helen," David said, his voice leaving no room for argument. "We need to conduct a thorough search today."
Helen went entirely pale. "Please, David," she pleaded, her voice cracking with desperation. "I've done nothing wrong. My family is waiting for me."

Ignoring her pleas, David wheeled the heavy vintage bicycle into the concrete shed. He emptied the burlap sack onto a metal table. Just as before, it was nothing but ordinary grain. He checked the tires, the handlebars, and the seat. Nothing. But when he lifted the bicycle, its weight caught his attention again. A vintage steel frame was heavy, but this bike felt like solid lead.
David grabbed a wrench and tapped the hollow metal tubes of the frame. The sound was dull and heavy, completely lacking the hollow ring of normal steel. Realization dawned on him. He grabbed a screwdriver, removed the seat post, and tipped the bicycle frame upside down.
With a dull clatter, several small, tightly wrapped plastic packages slid out of the tube and onto the metal table. David sliced one open with his pocketknife. Dozens of raw, uncut diamonds spilled out, sparkling brilliantly under the fluorescent lights. He gasped, turning to face Helen with a mixture of shock and betrayal.
But instead of running, Helen collapsed onto her knees, sobbing hysterically. She reached into her worn coat and pulled out a crumpled hospital document, holding it up to David with trembling hands.
"They are holding my granddaughter Lily hostage in the private clinic across the border," she wept. "She needs a heart transplant. The chief of this border sector told me he would only approve her surgery if I smuggled his diamond stash out of the country for him. If I refuse, she dies!"
David stared at the hospital document, then at the name of the authorizing official at the bottom. It was the signature of his own superior officer, Chief Miller. The very man who ran this entire sector was exploiting a desperate grandmother to run his smuggling empire.
