He Found His Mother Selling Street Food Ten Years After She Disappeared
Previously: James spent ten years believing his mother had abandoned him for money. But when he finally tracked her down to a humble street food cart, a devastating truth came to light.
A Web of Deceit
Before Margaret could step out from behind the cart to embrace her son, the heavy slam of a car door echoed across the sidewalk. A sleek black limousine had pulled up directly to the curb, its hazard lights blinking ominously. From the backseat stepped Charles, James's father, looking as cold and imposing as he did the day he banished Margaret from their lives.
"Get away from her, James," Charles commanded, his voice cutting through the chilly air like a knife. "I warned this woman what would happen if she ever tried to poison your mind again."
Margaret shrank back, her hand flying to her mouth in terror. James, however, stood his ground, stepping between his father and the fragile woman. "You lied to me, Father," James said, his voice dripping with anger. "You told me she took five million dollars and abandoned me. Look at her! Does this look like a woman living in luxury?"

Charles sneered, pulling a heavy leather portfolio from his coat and tossing it onto the metal cart.
"She didn't take the money because she failed to keep her end of the bargain," Charles hissed. "Read the documents, James. Your beloved mother signed a confession ten years ago. She was embezzling from my firm. I gave her a choice: go to prison, or leave the state and never see you again. She chose to run."
James's breath caught in his throat. He opened the portfolio, his eyes scanning the signed confession and the bank routing numbers. Margaret sobbed, burying her face in her hands. "I had to do it, James!" she cried out. "I had to protect your future!" James stared at the paper, his world spinning as the dark family secrets finally began to unravel in the harsh streetlights.
