Previously: After being framed by her corrupt partner, Sarah loses everything. Years later, she enters a grueling tactical shooting test to rebuild her life, only for her past to catch up with her.

The Ultimate Target

Carter stepped closer to Sarah, his eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction.

"I told you three years ago, Sarah," he whispered, low enough so only she could hear. "You are nothing without the badge. I made sure you were broken, and I'll make sure you stay that way. Get lost."

Sarah felt the sting of tears threatening to form, but she forced them down. She refused to let him see her break. She began to pack the rifle back into its case, her hands trembling slightly with repressed rage.

But Dave stepped in, placing a firm, steadying hand on the rifle case. He looked at Carter, a cold, knowing smile spreading across his face.

"You know, Carter," Dave said, his voice echoing under the awning. "You always did talk too much. It was your biggest flaw when we served together, and it clearly hasn't changed."

Carter blinked, his smugness faltering.

"What are you talking about, Dave? I'm your boss. Pack her up or you're fired."

Dave slowly reached into his pocket and pulled out a silver badge, along with a digital recorder.

"I don't think so," Dave said calmly. "I'm not just an instructor here. I'm the majority shareholder of this entire firm. And for the past six months, I've been conducting an internal audit. I found the original radio logs from that bank hostage situation, Carter. The ones you tried so hard to erase."

Carter's face drained of color. He took a step back, his confident posture completely collapsing.

"That... that's impossible," he stammered.

"It's very possible," Dave replied, gesturing to two armed security guards who had emerged from the main office. "You're finished, Carter. Federal investigators are waiting for you at the gate. As for you, Sarah..." Dave turned to her, his eyes filled with genuine warmth. "We've been looking for a new Chief of Tactical Operations. Someone with integrity. The job is yours, if you'll have it."

Sarah looked at the rifle, then at the empty desert horizon, feeling the heavy burden of the last three years finally lift from her shoulders. She had finally found her target, and she hadn't missed. Sometimes, the hardest battles are won not with a single bullet, but with the courage to stand your ground when the world tells you to run.
