A Hermit Saved a Drowning Wolf From the Ice, and Its Pack Remembered
Previously: When Logan pulled a freezing wolf from an icy pond, he thought he was just saving a life. He never expected the pack to return the favor when his own life hung in the balance.
The Intrusion
Two days after the rescue on the ice, the fragile peace of Logan’s sanctuary was broken. The roar of snowmobiles echoed through the valley, shattering the winter quiet. Logan stepped out of his cabin to find three armed men trespassing on his property, led by Thomas, a ruthless local developer who had been trying to buy Logan's land for months.
Thomas wanted to raze the forest for a luxury resort, but Logan had consistently refused to sell. Now, Thomas stood there with a high-powered rifle, a cruel grin on his face.

“We’re tracking a pack of dangerous predators, Logan,”
Thomas sneered, gesturing to the fresh tracks in the snow.
“They’ve been terrorizing the local livestock. We’re going to put them down, and you’re going to let us.”
Logan knew exactly which pack Thomas was hunting. It was the family of the wolf he had saved. Before Logan could speak, a low growl resonated from the tree line. The wolf pack emerged from the shadows of the spruce trees. At the front was the young female Logan had pulled from the icy water, her amber eyes fixed on the intruders.
Thomas raised his rifle, aiming directly at her chest.
Without a second thought, Logan stepped between the barrel of the gun and the wolf, shielding her with his own body.
“Lower the gun, Thomas,”
Logan demanded, his voice steady despite the adrenaline surging through his veins.
“You’re on my land, and these animals aren't hurting anyone.”
Thomas’s eyes narrowed, his finger tightening on the trigger.
“Get out of the way, Logan, or you’ll be an accidental casualty of a tragic hunting mishap. Nobody will ever know.”
The wolves growled louder, sensing the imminent danger to their savior, but Logan stood his ground, staring down the barrel of the gun.
