Previously: When Amelia knelt in the rain to propose to a disheveled stranger, she wasn't looking for love—she was trying to save her father's forgotten protector from a dangerous conspiracy.

The Light of Truth

Amelia found Marcus cornered at the dead end of the alley, pressing his back against a brick wall, clutching the velvet box like a lifeline. Three of Julian’s men were closing in on him, their hands reaching into their coats. Without thinking, Amelia grabbed a heavy metal pipe from a nearby trash bin and slammed it against a metal dumpster, creating a deafening clang that echoed through the narrow space.

"Get away from him!"
she screamed.

The distraction worked. Marcus looked up, and in the dim light of a flickering neon sign, he saw Amelia's sunglasses fall to the ground. For the first time, he saw her eyes clearly. The chemical fog that had clouded his mind for a decade suddenly parted. The trauma-induced amnesia shattered.

"Amelia..."
he whispered, his voice steadying.
"Arthur's little girl. You grew up."

Before the guards could react, Marcus lunged forward with the trained precision of a former elite operative. With three swift, brutal movements, he disarmed the lead guard and knocked the other two to the wet pavement. Julian arrived at the mouth of the alley seconds later, his face pale as he realized his armed men had been neutralized by a man he thought was permanently broken.

Marcus stepped forward, holding the velvet box open. He looked at Julian with cold, razor-sharp focus.

"I remember everything, Julian. I remember the night you cut the brake lines. And I still have the key."

Sirens wailed in the distance. Amelia had called the federal authorities before she ever approached Marcus, knowing she would need backup. Within minutes, Julian was led away in handcuffs, his empire of stolen patents crumbling instantly. Marcus was taken to a secure medical facility, where doctors began reversing the chemical damage to his memory. Sitting by his bedside, Amelia held his hand. They had lost ten years to darkness, but the truth had finally brought them back into the light. Sometimes, the greatest act of courage is not forgetting the past, but fighting to remember who we are.
