Previously: When Amelia knelt in the rain to propose to a homeless man, she thought it was a desperate business arrangement. But his terrifying reaction revealed a dark family secret.

Justice at Midnight

At 11:45 PM, the grand library of the family estate was silent except for the ticking of the grandfather clock. Victor stood by the fireplace, a glass of scotch in hand, looking smugly at the family lawyers. "It is nearly midnight," Victor said, hiding his inner panic behind a cold smile. "My niece has failed to find a husband. The estate is legally mine."

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the library burst open. Amelia walked in, her wet coat dripping onto the expensive Persian rug. Behind her stood two police officers, and beside them, leaning on her for support but standing tall, was Julian. He was clean-shaven, dressed in a borrowed suit, his eyes sharp and completely clear.

Victor gasped, dropping his glass. It shattered on the hearth.

"What is the meaning of this?" Victor stammered. "Amelia, you bring a street vagrant into this house?"
"His name is Julian Vance," Amelia said, her voice ringing with absolute authority. "And he is the man I am marrying tonight."

The family lawyer stepped forward, astonished. "But Julian Vance was declared deceased three years ago!"

"I was drugged, kidnapped, and kept hidden by Victor Vance," Julian said, his voice steady and filled with a cold fury. "The medical reports from the clinic where his men held me tonight prove I was kept under heavy chemical restraint. And the key around Amelia's neck opens the safe-deposit box containing the original trust documents Victor tried to destroy."

The police officers stepped forward, placing handcuffs on a pale, trembling Victor. As he was led away, the family lawyer quickly looked at the clock. It was 11:58 PM. He hurriedly spread the marriage license on the desk.

With trembling hands, Amelia and Julian signed their names, finishing just as the grandfather clock began to chime midnight. Julian pulled Amelia into a tight embrace, whispering that he was finally home. They had lost three years to a cruel conspiracy, but their love had proven to be a light that even the deepest darkness could never fully extinguish.
