The final ounce of courage drained from Hunter’s face. He collapsed back onto his heels, realizing that his attempt to leverage his family’s power had only sealed his fate. Within minutes, two military police officers entered the room, stripping Hunter of his rank insignias before escorting him out in cuffs.

Rachel stood by the window, watching them lead him across the courtyard.
