My Husband Claimed We Were Bankrupt Until I Found What Was Under Our Floorboards
Previously: When Claire's husband begged her to sell her late mother's house to save them from bankruptcy, she uncovered a shocking secret hidden beneath their own living room floorboards.
No Way Out
With a final, violent wrench, Robert managed to rip the tablet from Claire’s grip. He spun around and hurled it against the brick fireplace, where it shattered into a dozen useless pieces of plastic and glass. He stood breathing heavily, his chest heaving under his black shirt, his eyes wild as he looked at the three women. The man Claire had loved for four years had vanished, replaced by a desperate stranger.
Before anyone could move, Robert stepped backward toward the front door. He reached into his pocket, pulled out his keyring, and locked the heavy deadbolt from the inside. With a swift movement, he pocketed the key, effectively trapping Claire, Hannah, and Grace inside the house with him.

"You think you're clever, Claire?" Robert hissed, his voice cold and venomous. "You think you've ruined my plans? This changes nothing."
He pulled his cell phone from his pocket, dialled a number, and kept his eyes locked on Claire as the call connected. "Yeah, it's me," he said into the phone. "Bring the notary and the paperwork. We're doing this right now. The house is ours."
He hung up and stepped closer, the scattered money crunching beneath his boots. He explained, with a chilling smile, that he had already forged Claire's signature on a power of attorney document. A wealthy, private buyer was on their way to finalize the sale of her late mother's beloved house. He needed Claire's physical presence and a final signature to avoid any legal discrepancies, and he was prepared to use force to get it.
Hannah grabbed Claire’s arm, whispering in terror. "Claire, what do we do? He's completely lost his mind." Grace, torn between loyalty to her brother and horror at his actions, stepped between them. "Robert, stop this!" she pleaded. "This is fraud! You'll go to prison!" But Robert ignored his sister, his gaze fixed solely on Claire, waiting for her spirit to break. He believed he had all the leverage, but he had underestimated his wife's foresight.
