My Husband Claimed We Were Bankrupt Until I Found What Was Under Our Floorboards
Previously: When Claire's husband begged her to sell her late mother's house to save them from bankruptcy, she uncovered a shocking secret hidden beneath their own living room floorboards.
The Knock at the Door
A heavy, authoritative knock echoed through the house, shattering the tense silence of the living room. Robert’s face lit up with a triumphant, sinister grin. He stepped toward the door, keeping his hand near his pocket where the key was hidden. "That will be the buyers," he whispered, looking back at Claire. "Sign the documents, and I'll make sure you get a small cut of the money. Refuse, and things will get very painful for your sisters."
Claire didn't flinch. Instead, a calm, steady expression washed over her face, replacing the fear that had gripped her moments before. She stood tall in her yellow t-shirt, looking directly into the eyes of the man who had tried to ruin her life.

"Open the door, Robert," Claire said softly. "Let's see who is out there."
Robert unlocked the door and threw it open, expecting his corrupt business associates. Instead, he was met by three uniformed police officers and a plainclothes detective. Before Robert could even react, the detective stepped forward, showing his badge, while the officers grabbed Robert’s arms, forcing him to his knees on the very floorboards where his stolen cash was scattered.
Claire had suspected Robert’s financial discrepancies weeks ago. Just twenty minutes before Robert arrived home, while Hannah and Grace were helping her search the house, Claire had secretly called Detective Miller, the officer she had been cooperating with, telling him she had found the physical proof of Robert's embezzlement. The police had been waiting just down the street for her signal.
As the handcuffs clicked around Robert's wrists, he looked up at Claire, his face pale with shock. He was led away in silence, facing charges of grand theft, forgery, and domestic abuse. Grace and Hannah wrapped their arms around Claire, crying tears of relief. Her mother's house was safe, and the money Robert had hidden would be returned to his defrauded business partners. Standing in the quiet living room, Claire realized that while her marriage was a lie, her strength and the love of her sisters were the only truths she would ever need to rebuild her life.
