The banquet hall erupted into a flurry of whispers. David reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper, waving it like a trophy. "I found the medical records on your laptop, Emily!" he sneered, his voice still carrying through the active microphone. "I saw the files from the fertility clinic. You used a donor behind my back because you thought I was a failure!"

A collective gasp rippled through the room. My mother covered her face, and my father tried to step between us, but David pushed him aside. He was convinced he had uncovered a massive betrayal. He believed that Leo was not his biological child, and that I had lied to him from the very beginning of our pregnancy. But as I stared at the paper in his hand, a cold realization washed over me. David had only read the first page of the medical file—the initial consultation documents from before we even started our treatments.

He didn't know the truth because he had been too impatient and too angry to read the rest. My hands shook as I handed Leo to my mother and reached for my phone. I dialed our fertility specialist, Dr. Aris, and placed the call on speakerphone directly next to the microphone David was still holding.

"Dr. Aris,"

I said, my voice trembling but clear.

"You are on speaker at our family gala. Please tell my husband the results of our final successful IVF cycle."

The doctor sounded surprised, but he recognized the urgency in my voice. "Emily? Yes, of course. David, the final cycle used your frozen sample. We successfully bypassed the motility issues. Leo is one hundred percent your biological son. The donor profile was only a backup we discarded."
