The shadows in the nursery felt heavier than usual that rainy Tuesday evening. Lauren sat in the rocking chair, her body trembling with sheer exhaustion. She was clad in an oversized sweater that swallowed her petite frame, her blonde hair disheveled and damp with tears. In her arms, she cradled her two-week-old son, Liam. The infant’s high-pitched wails echoed off the walls, a relentless sound born of colic and distress. Suddenly, the heavy wooden door was flung open, banging violently against the drywall. Daniel, her husband of three years, stood in the doorway. His eyes, once warm and comforting, were now dark with an erratic, volatile rage. He didn't offer a comforting word or reach out to help.
