Previously: After being framed by her husband for embezzlement, Amy is sent to prison. But a secret hidden inside her new white sneakers holds the key to her freedom—if she can keep them.

The Hidden Threat

Before Beatrice could drag Amy to the ground to forcibly strip the shoes from her feet, a calm voice cut through the tension. Clara, an older inmate who had spent two decades keeping her head down and avoiding prison politics, stepped forward. She placed a firm hand on Beatrice’s tensed forearm.

"Leave her alone, Beatrice," Clara said quietly, her eyes steady and untroubled.

Beatrice sneered, turning her aggressive gaze toward the older woman.

"You want to get hurt too, old woman?" Beatrice growled, tightening her grip on Amy's collar.

Instead of flinching, Clara leaned in and whispered a few words directly into Beatrice's ear. Amy couldn't hear what was said, but the effect was instantaneous. Beatrice’s face went pale, her aggressive posture collapsing into sudden fear. She slowly released Amy’s collar, took a step back, and without another word, turned and walked quickly toward the cell blocks.

Amy leaned against the fence, catching her breath and rubbing her bruised neck. She looked at Clara in disbelief.

"Why did she stop?" Amy whispered. "What did you say to her?"

Clara’s expression was grim as she looked around the yard to ensure no one was watching them.

"I told her that the federal investigators are already monitoring her phone calls," Clara explained in a hushed tone. "But you have bigger problems, Amy. Your ex-husband David didn't just pay Beatrice to take those shoes. He paid the Associate Warden. They know your brother sent you something, and they are planning a surprise search of your cell tonight to find it and destroy it."

Panic washed over Amy. If the guards searched her cell, they would slice her shoes open and find the micro-SD card. Her one chance at freedom would be gone forever, and she would remain trapped in this concrete hellhole while David and her former best friend Sarah enjoyed their stolen millions.
