Previously: When Amanda fell from her chair at her own wedding, her groom didn't help her—he laughed. She wiped her tears, took off her ring, and welcomed a surprise guest.

A Sweet Revenge

Matthew reached out, his hands shaking as he tried to grasp my arm. "Amanda, please! It was a mistake. I was desperate. I can explain everything, I swear! We can fix this," he begged, his voice cracking in front of all our guests.

I stepped back, looking down at him with the same cold indifference he had shown me when I was crying on the floor. "You laughed when I fell, Matthew. But you're the one who is going down now."

Just then, two police officers walked through the grand double doors. Elizabeth gasped, clutching her chest. "You can't do this! Do you know who we are? We are the Vances!" she screamed, her voice cracking with desperation. "You are throwing away the best thing that ever happened to you, you ungrateful little girl!"

I looked at Elizabeth and smiled. "Actually, Elizabeth, there is one more thing you should know. You always looked down on me because you thought I was poor. But my grandfather was the founder of the hospitality group that owns this very hotel. I don't just have money—I own the roof over your head right now."

The guests gasped. Elizabeth stumbled backward, her face turning a ghostly shade of pale. She looked at her son, who was now being handcuffed by the officers. The absolute humiliation they had tried to inflict on me had rebounded on them tenfold.

As the police led a weeping Matthew away, and Elizabeth frantically tried to hide her face from the flashing cameras of the guests, I turned to Charles. "Let's go, Charles. I have a brand new life to start."

I walked out of the banquet hall with my head held high, leaving the ruins of their greed behind me. I learned that day that some people only love you for what they can take from you. But when they try to push you down, make sure you have the strength to stand back up—and watch them fall instead.
