My Husband Laughed When I Fell at Our Wedding, So I Called My Lawyer
A Dream Wedding Shattered
The grand banquet hall of the Plaza Hotel was a vision of old-world luxury. Hundreds of crystal chandeliers cast a warm, golden glow over the three hundred guests who had gathered to celebrate the union of two of the city’s most prominent families. Emily, a young brunette wearing a delicate lace gown and a diamond-encrusted tiara, looked like a princess straight out of a fairy tale. Beside her stood William, her new husband, looking effortlessly handsome in his midnight blue tuxedo.
But the fairy tale shattered in a single, humiliating second. As Emily went to sit down at the lavishly decorated head table, her chair suddenly slipped from beneath her. With a sharp gasp, she tumbled backward, crashing onto the hard marble floor. Her tiara clattered against the stone, and her voluminous skirt bunched up around her in a chaotic mess.

Pain shot through her ankle, but the emotional sting was far worse. Emily looked up, expecting William to rush to her aid. Instead, her new husband chuckled, raising his champagne flute to the crowd.
"Wow, too slow," William said, shaking his head with a smirk.
Laughter rippled through the front tables. Then, Victoria, William’s elegant mother, stepped forward in her champagne silk gown. Sweeping her eyes over Emily’s tear-stained face, she sneered openly.
"What a shame," Victoria murmured, her voice dripping with venom. "She doesn't even know how to sit properly."
Emily wiped a hot tear from her cheek. In that moment of utter humiliation, the truth became blindingly clear. They didn't love her; they never had. With trembling fingers, she slid the massive five-carat diamond engagement ring off her finger and dropped it onto the table. It landed with a dull clink.
Before William could speak, the heavy double doors of the banquet hall swung open. James, a sharp-eyed lawyer in a tailored black suit, walked in carrying a leather briefcase. Emily looked up at her stunned in-laws, a cold smile touching her lips.
"My lawyer is already here," she whispered.
