Previously: When Emily fell from her chair at her own wedding, her groom and mother-in-law laughed at her pain. But they didn't know she had a secret guest waiting at the door.

The Secret Agenda Exposed

The banquet hall fell into a stunned silence. Guests leaned forward in their seats, whispering furiously as James marched down the center aisle straight toward the head table. William’s smug smirk vanished, replaced by a mask of defensive anger.

"Emily, what is the meaning of this?" William hissed, stepping in front of her. "You’re making a fool of yourself. Tell your little attorney to leave before I have security throw him out."

James didn't blink. He placed his leather briefcase on the table, right next to the discarded diamond ring, and popped the brass latches. He pulled out a thick, notarized folder and handed a copy directly to William.

"Actually, Mr. Sterling, security won't be touching me," James said calmly. "But they might be escorting you and your mother off the premises shortly."

Victoria stepped forward, her face pale but her voice still sharp. "This is ridiculous! We are in the middle of a wedding reception. Whatever legal nonsense you have can wait until Monday."

"It cannot wait, Victoria," Emily said, standing tall and matching her mother-in-law's icy glare. "Because as of five minutes ago, I instructed James to halt the filing of our marriage certificate. We are not legally married."

A collective gasp echoed through the room. William tore open the folder, his eyes darting across the pages. His face drained of color. The documents in his hands were forensic accounting reports detailing unauthorized transfer attempts from Emily’s family trust fund—initiated by William and Victoria using forged signatures over the last three weeks.

To seal the trap, James pressed a button on his tablet. The hall’s state-of-the-art sound system crackled to life, playing an audio recording. It was William’s voice, clear and arrogant, talking to his mother just two nights prior: "Once the marriage is finalized tomorrow, the trust fund unlocks. We'll transfer the assets to our offshore accounts, and Emily won't be able to do a damn thing about it."
