The grand estate of the Sterling family had always felt more like a fortress than a home to Sarah. Standing in the cavernous hallway near the massive oak staircase, she felt smaller than ever. Her mint green satin dress, chosen to bring a sliver of joy to a tense evening, felt like a mockery. She clutched her pregnant belly, her heart hammering against her ribs as her husband, Thomas, stepped into her personal space, his face twisted in a mask of fury.

"How dare you speak to my mother like that in my house?" Thomas yelled, his voice booming off the marble floors. He wore his signature navy blue blazer, looking every bit the entitled heir he was. But to Sarah, he looked like a stranger.

Sarah sobbed hysterically, a sharp sting on her cheek reminding her of the physical confrontation moments earlier. A thin red scratch marred her pale skin. "Your mother humiliated me," she whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and betrayal. "And you heard every word. You stood there and did nothing."

From the landing of the grand staircase, Victoria, the stern matriarch of the family, looked down at them. Her lips curled into a cold, satisfied sneer. "Know your place, girl," Victoria hissed, her voice dripping with venom. "You never belonged to this family, and you never will."

Thomas didn't defend his wife. Instead, he turned back to Sarah, his silence confirming his mother's cruel words. But before he could speak another word of condemnation, the massive oak front doors of the estate swung open with a thunderous crash. The cold night air rushed in, and with it came an imposing figure. Arthur, Sarah’s estranged father, strode into the foyer, flanked by two towering security guards.

Arthur’s eyes swept the room, instantly taking in his daughter's tears and the scratch on her face. He didn't hesitate. "My daughter, pack your things," he commanded, his voice echoing with absolute authority.
