My Husband Allowed His Cruel Mother to Mistreat Me, Until My Powerful Father Stepped In
A Gilded Cage
The grand lobby of the Sterling mansion had always felt cold, but tonight, the atmosphere was downright freezing. Evelyn stood near the sweeping mahogany staircase, her hand instinctively resting on her pregnant belly. She wore a delicate lavender silk dress, a stark contrast to the dark, imposing shadows of the room. A fresh, stinging scratch marred her temple, a painful reminder of the physical confrontation she had just endured with her mother-in-law, Beatrice.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors slid open, and Charles stepped inside, his dark tailored suit immaculate, his face twisted in a mask of absolute fury. He didn't look at the blood on his wife's face; his eyes were fixed on her with pure disdain. "How dare you speak to my mother like that in my house?" he shouted, his voice echoing off the high marble walls.

Evelyn flinched, but she refused to back down. Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at the man she had promised to love forever. "Your mother humiliated me, Charles," she gasped, her voice trembling with a mixture of pain and betrayal. "She insulted our unborn child, she put her hands on me, and you heard every single word from the hallway. You did nothing."
From the top of the sweeping staircase, Beatrice looked down like a queen surveying her subjects. An older woman draped in expensive pearls, she let out a venomous sneer. "Know your place, girl," Beatrice hissed, her voice dripping with malice. "You never belonged to this family. You were nothing but a stray Charles brought home."
Before Charles could utter another word of defense for his mother, the massive double doors of the lobby swung open wide. A cold wind swept into the room, followed by the heavy, rhythmic thud of combat boots. Edward, an imposing older man with iron-gray hair, stepped into the light. He was flanked by four armed, uniformed security guards. He looked at Evelyn, his expression softening with deep paternal love, before hardening into stone as he looked at Charles.
"My daughter, pack your things," Edward commanded, his voice carrying the weight of absolute authority.
Charles froze, his face turning pale as he recognized the legendary billionaire tycoon standing in his lobby. He had no idea Evelyn was his daughter. Edward glared at Charles, his eyes burning with a silent promise of ruin. "And you will answer for every tear," he warned.
