Previously: Clara thought her husband Mark was just admiring a chic new bakery. But when she discovered his secret meetings, a century-old family mystery began to unravel.

The Betrayal Behind the Bricks

Clara didn't let Mark see her. Instead, she ducked behind the outdoor seating of a neighboring cafe, her heart hammering wildly. She watched as a sleek black sedan pulled up to the curb. A man wearing an expensive tailored suit stepped out, carrying a leather briefcase. Mark immediately approached him, pulling a heavy, tarnished bronze key from his pocket—a key Clara recognized instantly from her family’s old photographs.

Slipping her phone out, Clara pressed record, holding her breath as she crept closer. The ambient street noise masked her movements, but their voices carried clearly over the low chatter of the crowd.

"The demolition crew is scheduled for next Tuesday," Mark whispered, his voice laced with a cold greed Clara had never heard before. "Once they tear down the original brick oven in the back, we can retrieve the locked iron box containing the original deed."

The developer nodded, reviewing a document.

"And your wife still has no idea?"
Mark smirked.
"Clara thinks her family lost everything a century ago. She has no clue that this entire multi-million dollar property still legally belongs to her. By the time she realizes, the building will be gone, and the land will be sold to your firm."

Clara’s blood ran cold. The man she loved, the man she shared a life with, was actively conspiring to steal her heritage. Tears of betrayal threatened to spill, but she forced them back, replaced by a burning resolve. Just as she prepared to confront them, her phone vibrated with a text from an unknown number: Don't let him near the oven tonight. He has a crowbar and plans to steal the box early. Clara looked up, but the developer’s car was already pulling away, and Mark was staring greedily at the bakery window, completely unaware that his dark secret was out.
