When Megan arrived at the apartment she shared with Tyler, she expected to hear the sounds of a surprise party being prepared. Perhaps they were decorating, or perhaps they had simply been too busy planning her homecoming to check their phones. But as she unlocked the front door, she was greeted by an eerie, heavy silence. The living room was empty, yet she could hear muffled laughter and clinking glasses coming from the master bedroom.

Creeping down the hallway, her heart hammered violently against her ribs. The bedroom door was slightly ajar, leaking a sliver of warm light. Megan peered inside, and the scene before her made her blood run cold. Tyler was sitting on the edge of the bed, and draped over his lap was Chloe, her younger sister. They were sharing a bottle of expensive champagne, laughing intimately.

"So, is the paperwork finalized?" Tyler asked, his arm wrapped tightly around Chloe's waist.

"Almost," Chloe giggled, waving a folder of legal documents. "Since the doctors said Megan's prognosis was terminal last month, the bank approved the transfer of her trust fund and savings to my name as her sole trustee. By next week, the apartment will be officially ours, too."

Megan stood frozen, the breath completely knocked out of her. They had given up on her. Worse, they had actively plotted to strip her of her life savings and her home, assuming she would never leave that hospital bed alive. Just then, Chloe’s phone buzzed on the nightstand. She reached for it, her smile instantly freezing as she read Megan's text message announcing she was cancer-free.

"What is it?" Tyler asked, noticing her sudden paleness.

"It's... it's Megan," Chloe stammered, her voice shaking with sudden terror. "She's cured. Tyler, she's cancer-free. What do we do about the money?"

Megan didn't wait to hear his answer. She pushed the door wide open, stepping into the room like a ghost returned from the dead. Tyler and Chloe gasped, jumping apart in absolute horror as they stared at the woman they had so eagerly left behind.
