Previously: Sarah stood in the grand marble hall, her pristine wedding dress caked in thick mud. As her wealthy groom sneered in disgust, a rugged cowboy in the corner smiled.

The Ultimatum

Richard stepped forward, his face twisting from shock into a mask of pure disgust. He grabbed Sarah by the arm, his grip tight and unforgiving.

"What is the meaning of this spectacle?"
he hissed, keeping his voice low but lethal.
"You have embarrassed my family, my partners, and me. Apologize to everyone right now, tell them it was a stupid riding accident, and go wash this filth off."

Sarah pulled her arm away, her eyes flashing with a fire Richard had never seen before. She realized that this wedding was never about love; it was about control.

"I'm not apologizing for saving my father's horses from your slaughterhouse trucks, Richard,"
she declared, her voice echoing off the high ceilings.
"The wedding is off. I am leaving you."

A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Richard’s mother fluttered her fan furiously, while his business partners whispered intensely. But Richard merely let out a cold, mocking laugh. He reached into his tuxedo pocket and pulled out a folded, official-looking document, holding it up for the entire room to see.

"You think you can just walk away from me, Sarah?"
Richard sneered, his eyes gleefully malicious.
"Your late father signed this contract three weeks before he died. He transferred the entire Whispering Pines deed to my development firm to settle his outstanding debts. If you don't marry me today, I will have you evicted, and my bulldozers will tear down that ranch tomorrow morning."

Sarah felt the ground slip beneath her feet. Her father would never have betrayed the ranch, but the signature on the paper looked terrifyingly real. Tears welled in her eyes as she realized she was trapped between marrying a monster or losing her father's legacy forever. She looked toward the pillars, her heart breaking, only to see Wyatt straighten up and walk toward them, his spurs clinking rhythmically against the marble floor.
