Twenty-one-year-old Ryan was used to being misjudged. Walking home in a grey hooded sweatshirt and worn-out jeans, he knew the looks he got from the residents of the affluent suburban cul-de-sac. But Ryan was just a hardworking young man trying to make ends meet, carrying nothing but a tired smile. That afternoon, the autumn sun cast long shadows across the pristine sidewalks as he noticed Officer Nicole walking her usual beat. She was a familiar, comforting presence in the neighborhood, known for her warm smile and fair treatment of everyone she met.

As they crossed paths, Ryan offered a polite nod, which Nicole returned with a gentle smile. But just as Ryan took three steps past her, a strange, choked gasp broke the quiet afternoon. He spun around to see Officer Nicole clutching her chest, her face draining of color. She took a couple of unstable, blind steps before her knees buckled completely. She collapsed heavily onto the hard concrete walkway.

Without a second thought, Ryan rushed to her side. He dropped to his knees, cradling her head to keep it off the unforgiving ground. Her eyes were rolling back, her breathing shallow and labored.

"Officer! Stay with me, please, please. Please,"

Ryan pleaded, his voice cracking with desperation as tears welled in his eyes. He looked up, shouting for help, but the few neighbors who had stepped onto their lawns only watched from a distance, whispering among themselves, hesitant to get involved with the young man in the hoodie.

When the ambulance finally arrived with its red lights flashing, Ryan waved his arms frantically, desperate to guide the paramedics. But as they rushed to save Nicole, a second police cruiser screeched to a halt. Out stepped Officer Davis, Nicole's partner. Seeing Ryan hovering over the unconscious officer, Davis immediately assumed the worst. Before Ryan could utter a single word of explanation, Davis slammed him against the police car, declaring him under arrest for attempted murder.
