Previously: While walking through the city, Amanda’s world shattered when her son Lucas pointed out a homeless boy who looked identical to him—holding a locket that changed everything.

Amanda brought Caleb back to her warm apartment, her mind spinning in a dizzying fog. She immediately ran a warm bath for him and dug through Lucas’s closet for clean clothes. Watching the two boys sit side-by-side at her kitchen table, eating warm chicken soup, was nothing short of a miracle. They moved in perfect unison, held their spoons the same way, and even laughed with the same lighthearted pitch. It was undeniable; Caleb was the twin brother Amanda had been told died at birth nine years ago.

The Dark Conspiracy

Desperate for answers, Amanda called Arthur, her trusted family attorney. Within an hour, Arthur arrived at the apartment. His face drained of color the moment he saw the identical boys sitting together. Amanda handed him the gold locket. Arthur examined it closely, his expression turning grim.

"Amanda, we need to run a DNA test immediately to make this official," Arthur said quietly, pulling her into the hallway. "But I need to tell you something. The clinic where you gave birth was shut down by federal agents five years ago. The lead obstetrician, Dr. Sterling, was arrested for running an illegal, high-priced adoption ring."

Amanda gasped, clutching her chest. "Are you saying they stole my baby?"

Arthur nodded slowly. "It gets worse. I looked into the clinic's old financial records. The primary private donor who funded Dr. Sterling’s private wing back then was Eleanor—your late husband’s mother."

The revelation hit Amanda like a physical blow. Eleanor had always despised her, viewing her as someone unworthy of the family’s prestigious name. Eleanor had desperately wanted an heir she could control entirely. She must have bribed the doctor to tell Amanda one twin had died, only to secretly take Caleb and place him with a hand-selected foster mother. But when that foster mother died, Caleb had fallen through the cracks of the system, ending up on the streets.

Before Amanda could process the sheer cruelty of the plot, the apartment’s intercom buzzed aggressively. Amanda walked over and pressed the button. Eleanor’s cold, aristocratic voice filled the room. "Amanda, I know you have the boy. Open this door immediately, or I will have the police arrest you for kidnapping."
