The Instructor Mocked Her Skills, but Her Perfect Aim Revealed a Hidden Past
Previously: When Clara walked onto the rugged desert shooting range, the instructor doubted her. But with seven perfect shots, she proved she wasn't just a beginner—she was running for her life.
By the time the seventh casing hit the dusty ground, a heavy silence had fallen over the entire range. The spectators stared in absolute awe, their previous amusement replaced by deep respect. Downrange, the metal target was still vibrating from the flawless, rapid-fire succession of impacts. Jack slowly removed his sunglasses, looking at Clara as if seeing her for the first time.
The Ghost of the Past
The grouping of her shots was so tight it could be covered by a single coin. It was the mark of an elite professional, not a casual hobbyist. Jack stepped closer, his voice low so the others wouldn't hear.

"You didn't learn to shoot like that in some weekend class," Jack remarked, his eyes searching hers. "Who are you, Clara? And who are you preparing to fight?"
"Just someone who wants her life back," Clara replied quietly, disassembling her rifle and packing it back into its protective case. She thanked Jack with a brief nod and walked toward her dusty SUV parked near the exit. But her heart froze when she saw a black sedan idling near the highway gate.
The tinted window rolled down, revealing the cruel, familiar face of Vance, her ex-husband's chief security officer. He held a smartphone out the window, displaying a live video stream of a playground. In the center of the frame was Clara's daughter, Lily, playing happily, completely unaware of the guard watching her.
"Marcus sent his regards," Vance sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "He knows you've been practicing. He says it's time to come home and sign the custody waiver, or this video feed gets cut permanently. What's it going to be, Clara?"
Clara felt the ground tilt beneath her feet. The cold terror that had haunted her for years returned with a vengeance. She was trapped, miles from help, with her daughter's life hanging in the balance.
