The Shocking Disqualification

The atmosphere inside the grand exhibition hall of the National Science Convention Center was electric. Hundreds of brilliant young minds had gathered, their booths filled with flashing lights, complex robotics, and revolutionary software. Among them was seventeen-year-old Leo, wearing a navy polo shirt that matched the deep blue of his display board. For three long years, Leo had spent every spare hour in his family's garage, working to complete the intricate microcircuit board that now sat proudly on his table.

His mother, Sarah, watched him with a mixture of pride and bittersweet memories. The project was more than just a school assignment; it was the continuation of a dream left unfinished by Leo’s late father, David, a brilliant engineer who had passed away before he could patent his greatest invention. Sarah gently squeezed her son's shoulder as he adjusted a tiny copper wire.

"I finally did it, Mom!" Leo whispered, a radiant smile breaking across his face as the circuit board hummed to life, glowing with a steady, vibrant blue light.

But before Sarah could reply, a cold shadow fell over their booth. Arthur, the stern, highly-respected head judge of the competition, stepped forward. Clad in an immaculate grey suit, his expression was completely devoid of warmth. He barely glanced at the glowing circuit board before looking directly at Leo.

"Pack your things," Arthur commanded, his voice sharp and carrying over the murmurs of the crowd.

Leo’s smile instantly vanished, replaced by utter shock.

"What?"
he gasped, his hands freezing over the delicate electronics.

"You heard me," Arthur declared, his tone dripping with finality. "You're disqualified."

Before Sarah could voice her outrage, a sharp voice cut through the tension. Helen, a senior official of the science fair committee dressed in a tailored black pantsuit, stepped forward to confront Arthur. Her eyes flashed with defiance as she demanded,

"Then why was his project selected by our review committee three months ago, Arthur?"
