Previously: When a harsh judge disqualified young Leo from the school science fair, his mother Sarah feared his hard work was ruined—until a mysterious woman stepped forward with a shocking truth.

The Shadow of the Past

The sudden intervention of Helen, the school district's esteemed superintendent, sent a wave of whispers through the crowded gym. Arthur’s confident posture stiffened, his face losing its color as he turned to face her. "Helen, this is a standard academic evaluation. The boy's project is far too sophisticated. It is highly obvious he had unauthorized, professional help," Arthur argued, attempting to regain his authoritative footing.

"Is that so, Arthur?" Helen asked, her voice dripping with ice. She stepped up to the display table, gently placing a hand on Leo's trembling shoulder. "Because I have the original blueprints that Leo submitted to the review board three months ago. Every calculation, every hand-drawn diagram of this copper wire array is in his own handwriting. But we both know that isn't why you are disqualifying him, isn't it?"

Sarah watched the exchange in utter bewilderment. She looked at Helen, then at Arthur, whose knuckles had turned white as he gripped his clipboard. "What is going on here?" Sarah demanded, her voice shaking. "How do you know my son's work?"

Helen turned to Sarah, her expression softening into deep sympathy. "Sarah, my name is Helen Vance. Ten years ago, I was the dean of engineering at the state university. I knew your late husband, David. And more importantly, I knew the groundbreaking clean-energy research he was working on right before he passed away."

A heavy silence fell over the immediate area. Helen looked back at Arthur, her eyes flashing with righteous anger.

"When David died, his research miraculously disappeared, and shortly after, Arthur here patented a 'revolutionary' clean-energy model that launched his career. But it was David's design. And today, when Arthur saw David's son recreating that very design from his father's old notes, he panicked. He wanted to bury this project before anyone realized the truth."
