The moment Felicity slammed the forged will onto the judge's desk, the air in the room turned to ice.

Clara flinched as the paper hit the polished cherrywood with a sharp crack. She held Nico closer, the baby's white wool swaddle brushing against her chin, and she could feel the tiny heartbeat against her own — steady, innocent, unaware that his entire future was being decided in this room.

Felicity stood over her like a predator, her dark ponytail swinging as she pointed a manicured finger straight at Clara's face. "This child is a fraud!" she announced, her voice dripping with venom. "He's not even related to my uncle. That woman planted him to steal the family fortune."

Judge Marcus Aldrich narrowed his eyes but said nothing. He simply watched, his thick white hair catching the golden morning light that streamed through the sheer curtains. His silence was more terrifying than any shout.

Clara's lower lip trembled. She had known this moment would come, but knowing didn't make it easier. Felicity had spent months poisoning the family against her, spreading rumors, forging documents. And now, with the will in hand, she had the upper hand.

"The will is clear," Felicity continued, her voice sweet and cruel. "Everything goes to me. The house, the trust, the investments — all of it. And this… this child gets nothing."

Nico stirred in Clara's arms, letting out a soft coo. Clara pressed a kiss to his forehead, feeling the crescent birthmark under his swaddle — the same mark she had on her own collarbone, the same mark that had connected them since the moment he was born.

"Felicity," Clara said, her voice barely above a whisper, "you know that's not true. You know who his father was."

Felicity laughed — a sharp, brittle sound. "His father? You mean my uncle? Please. He had a heart condition. He was old and lonely, and you took advantage of him. You're nothing but a nurse who got lucky."

The judge leaned forward, his commanding brow furrowing. "Miss Clara, do you have something to present to this court?"

Clara nodded, reaching into the folds of her pale blue scrubs. Her fingers brushed against something cold and metallic — the small silver key. She pulled it out, and Felicity's eyes flickered with something like unease.

"My uncle gave me this before he died," Clara said, holding up the key. "He told me to keep it safe. He said it would protect his son."

She pulled the locked leather probate pouch from her bag and set it on the table. The leather was worn and dark, stamped with the judge's family crest — the same crest that had been on the will Felicity had just slammed down.

"That's not possible," Felicity said, her voice losing some of its edge. "That pouch was sealed by the estate attorney. No one has access to it."

Clara's hand was shaking as she inserted the key and turned it. The lock clicked open with a sound that seemed to echo through the room. She lifted the flap and pulled out a single sheet of paper, sealed with wax.

"Look," she said, her voice cracking. "Look at the official seal."

Judge Aldrich reached out, his commanding hand taking the paper from her. He broke the wax seal under the bright light, and the room fell silent — the kind of silence that happens before a storm.

Felicity's smirk faltered. She took a step back, almost imperceptibly, but Clara saw it. She saw the sweat beading on Felicity's temple, and she knew — this wasn't over yet.

"Hand me that sealed envelope," the judge said, his voice low and steady.

Clara handed it over, her heart pounding. She had no idea what was inside, but she trusted her uncle. She trusted him with her life — and with her son's.

The judge opened the envelope, and as he read the contents, his expression shifted. His brow furrowed deeper. His jaw tightened. And when he finally looked up, his eyes were thunderous.

"You bribed the lab clerk," he said, his voice like a crack of lightning.

Felicity's face went pale. "I—I don't know what you're talking about."

The judge held up the paper — an authentic bloodline DNA verification sheet reading 99.99% match. And beneath it, an audio transcript of Felicity's voice, ordering the fake report.

"This child is the biological son of my late brother," Judge Aldrich said, his voice ringing with finality. "And you, Felicity, are under arrest for fraud."

Officers stepped forward, seizing Felicity's wrists. She struggled, her leopard-trim dress twisting as they dragged her away.

"You'll regret this!" she screamed. "I'll get out, and I'll—"

But her words were cut off as the door slammed behind her.

Judge Aldrich wrapped a fierce, protective arm around Clara's shoulders. "My child inherits everything today," he said, his voice soft now. "And you, my dear, are family."

Clara rested against him, tears streaming down her face. "Thank you," she whispered. "Thank you for believing me."

"I should have believed you from the start," he said. "But I promise you, Clara — I will never doubt you again."

Nico cooed, and Clara laughed through her tears. For the first time in months, she felt safe.

But little did she know, Felicity's last whisper to her lawyer as she was dragged out would set off a chain of events that would shake them all — and that the real battle for Nico's future was only just beginning.
