The Slamming of the Forged Report

The morning sun streamed through the glass atrium, casting long shadows across the marble floor. Lily knelt near the center, her small fingers brushing the velvet lining of her mother’s music box. She was seven years old, but her eyes held a sorrow that no child should know.

Preston, the family lawyer, stood across from her, his black suit immaculate, his crocodile briefcase gleaming. He slammed a piece of paper onto the polished wood table with a sound that echoed like a gunshot.

“She is not your daughter!” he declared, his voice slow and cruel. His nostrils flared as he pointed at Lily, his manicured finger trembling with feigned outrage.

Lily flinched, tears spilling down her cheeks, but she didn’t make a sound. Her grip tightened on the music box.

Julian Sterling, her father, narrowed his eyes. He had built an empire from nothing, and he knew a lie when he saw one. But this was his own lawyer, a man he had trusted for years.

“That paper was printed yesterday,” Lily said, her voice quivering but steady. She lifted the music box toward Julian, her hands shaking.

Preston’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second. He recovered quickly, but Julian had seen it.

Julian reached out and took the music box from his daughter. He found a hidden compartment, the seal still intact. Under the bright light, he broke it open.

Inside, there was a watermarked estate trust deed and a certified court DNA lab certificate. The results were clear: 99.99% biological parentage.

Julian’s jaw tightened. He looked up at Preston, his eyes blazing with fury. “He is my rightful heir,” he said, his voice low and dangerous.

Preston’s face drained of color. He stumbled backward, but it was too late. Uniformed officers stepped forward, seizing his wrists.

“Officers, take this fraud away,” Julian commanded. As Preston was led out in disgrace, Lily rested against Julian, her small body finally relaxing.

But as the door closed, Lily looked up at her father with a new light in her eyes. “Daddy,” she whispered, “there’s another box.”
