Previously: When a young woman in an emerald green jacket approached the USO desk, a shocked officer recognized her as a legendary naval operative everyone believed was gone forever.

Lauren retreated to the quieter corner of the USO lounge, clutching her duffel bag. The reality of her return was sinking in, but the peace was short-lived. Her phone vibrated violently in her pocket. Seeing an encrypted, restricted number, her heart hammered. She answered, keeping her voice low.

"Lauren? I saw the flight manifest. You shouldn't have come back,"

a cold, familiar voice hissed. It was Marcus, her former commander—the man who had betrayed her unit five years ago and left her for dead to protect his dark secrets.

"I'm done hiding, Marcus,"

Lauren replied, her voice cold as ice.

Daniel whispered, blocking her from the view of the main terminal.

"I've been monitoring the security feeds. There are three armed men in civilian suits watching the main exits. They aren't airport security. They're waiting for you."

Lauren realized Marcus had the entire airport surrounded. She was trapped, and her family's lives hung in the balance. She looked at Daniel, trying to read his intentions. Was he part of the trap, or was he her only lifeline?

"I can get you through the restricted military tarmac to a transport vehicle,"

Daniel offered, his eyes sincere.

"But we have to move now. Do you trust me?"

Before she could answer, William, the older veteran, walked over and placed a steadying hand on her shoulder.

"We protect our own, Commander,"

he said softly.

"Go. We'll slow them down."
