Previously: When Megan walked onto the exclusive desert firing line, she was met with sneers and doubt. But she wasn't there to practice—she was there to reclaim her father's stolen legacy.

Before Steve could even process his shock, Megan fired again. And again. Five shots, fired in perfect, rhythmic succession. Each loud crack of the rifle was followed by the distant, satisfying clang of lead meeting steel. Downrange, the target didn't just swing; it danced under the relentless, pinpoint accuracy of her barrage.

The spectators under the canopy broke into hushed, awed whispers. No one had ever seen that kind of speed and precision with a vintage bolt-action rifle.

A Ghost from the Past

Steve's face turned a pale, sickly shade of white. He stared at the rifle in her hands, and then, slowly, his eyes drifted up to her face. The realization hit him like a physical blow.

"You... you’re Arthur’s girl,"

he whispered, his voice trembling.

Megan didn't lower the rifle. She kept her eyes locked downrange, but her voice carried clearly over the wind.

"Ten years ago, you told the board that my father’s eyesight was failing, that he missed the target and caused the accident,"

she said.

"You took his range, his reputation, and his life's work. But he didn't miss, Steve. You sabotaged his scope."

The spectators gasped. Steve’s wealthy clients exchanged uncomfortable glances. This was no longer a simple demonstration; it was a public execution of a decade-old lie.

"That's enough!"

Steve barked, his face flushing red with anger and panic. He reached for his holster.

"Get off my range before I have you arrested for trespassing!"

But Megan still had two shots left. Instead of aiming downrange, she slowly pivoted the barrel of the heavy rifle toward the main office building behind them. High on the wooden beam hung the massive, gold-plated championship plaque—the one Steve had claimed after her father was disgraced.

"Step back, Steve,"

Megan warned, her finger tightening on the trigger.
