Previously: When Brenda's mother-in-law violently attacked her in the baby's nursery, a shocking family secret came to light, forcing her husband to make an impossible choice.

A Devastating Accusation

Even as she retreated toward the hallway, Evelyn showed no signs of remorse. Instead, she reached into the pocket of her dark grey hoodie and pulled out a crumpled piece of paper, tossing it onto the hardwood floor.

"You think you're protecting a saint, Luke?" Evelyn sneered, her voice dripping with venom. "Look at what your precious wife has been hiding. Look at the truth!"

Luke slowly knelt down, his hand trembling as he picked up the paper. Brenda watched in horror as her husband’s eyes scanned the document. The color drained from his face, and his hands began to shake violently. He looked from the paper to Brenda, his eyes filled with a sudden, agonizing doubt.

"Brenda... what is this?" Luke whispered, his voice cracking. "A DNA registry? Why did you order a paternity test?"

Before Brenda could speak, Evelyn chimed in, her voice filled with sick satisfaction.

"Because she knows the baby isn't yours, Luke! She’s been lying to you from the very beginning!"

The accusation hung heavily in the air. Brenda shook her head frantically, tears streaming down her face. She tried to step toward Luke, but he took a step back, the pain in his eyes cutting deeper than any physical blow.

"Luke, please, let me explain!" Brenda begged, her voice cracking. "That’s not what it looks like! It’s not for Leo!"

But the timing was terrible. Brenda’s sister, Sarah, had been going through a bitter custody battle with a dangerous ex-husband and had used Brenda's address to secretly mail a DNA test for her own safety. Brenda had promised to keep it a secret, never imagining that her mother-in-law would go snooping through their mail and trash to find the registration.

Confronted with the paperwork and his mother's frantic accusations, Luke was too overwhelmed to think clearly. The trust they had spent years building seemed to crumble in a single moment.

"I need to get out of here," Luke muttered, refusing to meet Brenda's eyes. "I need some space."

With a triumphant grin, Evelyn followed Luke as he walked out the door, leaving Brenda alone in the nursery, clutching her crying baby.
