Previously: At my dream wedding, my mother-in-law whispered a chilling threat about my unborn baby. In a flash of pure panic and rage, I did the unthinkable before running for my life.

The Ultimatum in the Bridal Suite

I slammed the heavy oak door of the bridal suite behind me and locked it, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. I collapsed against the wall, clutching my stomach. My baby. I had to protect my baby. Within minutes, the heavy brass doorknob began to rattle violently, followed by furious pounding that shook the frame.

"Lily! Open this door right now!" Ethan’s voice boomed, filled with a mixture of anger and deep embarrassment. I took a deep breath, wiped my tears, and clicked the lock. The door flew open. Ethan stormed in, his tuxedo slightly disheveled, followed closely by Diana. She was still wearing the teal dress, now heavily stained, and frosting clung to her hair. She was sobbing hysterically.

"Are you completely out of your mind?" Ethan yelled, his eyes wide with fury. "You just humiliated my mother in front of our entire family, our friends, and my business partners! What is wrong with you?"

I looked at my new husband, desperate for him to understand. I pulled the small vial from my dress pocket. "Ethan, your mother tried to poison me. She dropped this vial, and she whispered that she was going to make sure our baby was never born!"

Diana gasped, clutching her chest in mock horror. "That is an absolute lie! That is my prescription heart medication! She stole it from my purse to frame me because she has hated me from the start!" she wailed, burying her face in Ethan's shoulder.

Ethan looked at the vial, then at his mother, and finally at me. His expression hardened into something cold and unfamiliar. "Lily, this is insane. My mother would never do something so monstrous. You've been stressed, but this paranoia is unacceptable. You are going to walk back out there, get on your knees, and apologize to my mother right now. If you don't, this marriage is over before the night ends."
