A Mother's Betrayal

The silence in the kitchen was deafening, broken only by the low hum of the industrial freezers. Matteo stared at his mother, the realization of her cruelty settling deep into his chest. For months, he had wondered why Elena had grown distant, why she refused his proposals of marriage despite the deep love they shared and the beautiful life they had built with their four-year-old daughter, Lily. Now, the horrific truth was laid bare.

"Is this true, Mother?" Matteo’s voice was dangerously quiet, a storm brewing beneath his calm exterior. "Did you touch her?"

Victoria sneered, her elegant facade cracking to reveal the cold matriarch underneath. She adjusted the diamond necklace around her throat, refusing to look at Elena.

"I did what was necessary, Matteo," Victoria hissed. "Look at her! She is a cook. You are the heir to a real estate empire. Having her parade around upstairs as your future wife is an embarrassment. She should be grateful I let her work here to support your child."

Elena flinched, but she stood her ground, drawing strength from Matteo's presence. "She didn't just strike me tonight, Matteo," Elena whispered, her voice gaining strength. "She threatened to take Lily away from me. She showed me legal documents, boasting that her high-priced lawyers would declare me an unfit mother because of my long working hours. She said if I didn't stay in the kitchen and out of your social circle, I would never see our daughter again."

Matteo’s heart shattered. He looked at the woman he loved, realizing the immense burden she had carried alone just to protect their child. He turned back to Victoria, his eyes burning with absolute disgust. The woman who had raised him was nothing but a monster disguised in silk and gold.

"You have crossed a line you can never cross back," Matteo said, his voice trembling with rage. "You think your money makes you invincible, Mother? You are about to find out how powerless you truly are."
