Previously: When my wealthy cousin Victoria tried to humiliate my husband Arthur at a lavish wedding, she had no idea that her own billionaire husband was actually Arthur's subordinate.

A Web of Deceit

The garden fell into a deafening silence. The affluent guests stared in shock, their hushed whispers rustling through the gardenias like a sudden wind. Victoria looked as if she had been slapped, her face pale as she clutched her diamond necklace. She grabbed her husband's arm, trying to pull him up from his deep bow.

"Charles, what on earth are you doing?" she hissed, her voice cracking. "Why are you bowing to this nobody? He’s just Sarah’s husband!"

Charles violently shook her hand off, his face flushed with panic. "Shut up, Victoria!" he whispered fiercely. "Do you have any idea who you are talking to? This is Arthur Vance, the principal shareholder of Vance Global. He literally owns the holding company that finances my entire real estate empire! One word from him, and we are completely bankrupt!"

I stared at Arthur, my heart pounding against my ribs. Arthur Vance? The same man who helped me wash dishes every night and drove a dented sedan? My mind raced, trying to reconcile the quiet man I loved with the reclusive billionaire who ruled the city's financial sector. He had kept this massive secret from me for our entire three-year marriage.

Arthur finally spoke, his voice cool and commanding. "Get up, Charles. Today is your wedding. I didn't come here to ruin it."

Desperate to save his business, Charles grabbed Victoria's wrist and dragged her forward. "Apologize to Mr. Vance and his wife. Now! Or I swear this wedding is over!"

But instead of apologizing, Victoria’s shock morphed into venomous rage. She yanked her arm free, slapped Charles across the face, and sneered at Arthur. She reached into her silk clutch and pulled out a folded document, throwing it at Arthur’s chest.

"You think you've won?" she screamed. "If you are so powerful, why did your company sign over all its prime assets to my family's private trust yesterday? Look at the signature, Arthur! You're ruined!"

Arthur caught the paper. As his eyes scanned the document, his calm facade cracked. For the first time, I saw genuine shock and betrayal in his eyes.
