Previously: When Robert accused Megan of sabotaging his career-defining project, he thought he had the perfect scapegoat. But Megan had a paper trail that would turn the entire corporate boardroom against him.

An Unexpected Alliance

The silence in the boardroom was deafening. Mr. Vance slowly stood up, his face contorted in pure fury as he looked at Robert. "Security is already on their way up, Robert," the CEO said, his voice deadly quiet. "And our legal team will be contacting the authorities. You are finished." Robert was escorted out of the building in handcuffs, his reputation and career instantly destroyed.

Once the door closed, Mr. Vance turned to Megan, his expression softening. "Megan, I cannot apologize enough for almost letting this happen. You saved this company from a devastating blow. To make things right, I want to offer you Robert's position as Senior Director, along with a significant raise and full creative control over the Apex Project."

Megan looked around the room at the board members, who were all nodding in agreement. But instead of accepting, she smiled gently and shook her head. "Thank you, Mr. Vance, but I have to decline."

The room gasped. Megan continued, "The client who 'pulled out' of the Apex Project? They didn't actually quit. They were working with me. We realized Robert was leaking information weeks ago, and we staged the cancellation to force him into making a desperate move. And now, the client and I are launching our own independent agency."

Megan closed her laptop and packed it into her bag. She had spent years building other people's dreams while they took the credit. Now, she was finally going to build her own. She walked out of the boardroom, not as a fired employee, but as a newly minted CEO of her own destiny.

Sometimes, the best way to survive a toxic corporate ladder is to step off it entirely and build your own tower.

The End
