Previously: When Robert accused Megan of sabotaging his career-defining project, he thought he had the perfect scapegoat. But Megan had a paper trail that would turn the entire corporate boardroom against him.

The Boardroom Trap

The next morning, the executive boardroom was silent as a tomb. Robert stood at the head of the long glass table, presenting a fabricated report to the CEO and the board of directors. He spoke with practiced confidence, painting Megan as an incompetent manager who had single-handedly ruined the multi-million-dollar deal. Megan sat quietly at the far end of the table, her laptop open, waiting for her moment to speak.

When Robert finished his presentation, he looked down at her with a smug, victorious smile. "Therefore, Mr. Vance," Robert said to the CEO, "I recommend Megan's immediate termination and a formal blacklisting from our affiliate networks."

Mr. Vance turned his stern gaze to Megan. "Do you have anything to say in your defense, Megan?"

Megan stood up slowly. "I do, Mr. Vance. And I think the board deserves to see the full picture." She connected her laptop to the massive projector screen. Instead of performance metrics, a raw audio file appeared on the screen. She clicked play.

The room filled with the sound of Robert’s voice, but it wasn't from yesterday's argument. It was a recorded phone call from two weeks prior. "Once Sterling loses the Apex contract, their stock will dip," Robert’s recorded voice explained to an unknown recipient. "That's when your firm can buy the intellectual property for pennies on the dollar. Just make sure my executive VP position is secured."

Robert’s face instantly drained of all color. He tried to stand, but his knees buckled, forcing him back into his leather chair. "This is a fabrication!" he gasped, his voice cracking with desperation. "She altered the audio! This is a setup!"

Megan calmly advanced the slide, displaying the digital forensic trail of the proprietary files Robert had transferred to his personal external drive. The evidence of corporate espionage was absolute and undeniable.
