Previously: When Maria disrupted the wealthy family's funeral with a wooden pole, they thought she had lost her mind—until a faint sound came from inside the casket.

The silence in the funeral home was suffocating as everyone listened. Another faint tap came from beneath the splintered wood. Marcus pushed past Maria, his hands shaking as he tore at the broken lid of the casket. The funeral director rushed forward to assist, and together they pried open the heavy white top.

A collective gasp echoed through the room. Clara’s eyes were fluttered open, her lips moving silently as she struggled for breath. She was pale, but undeniably alive.

The Poisonous Secret

"Get an ambulance!" Marcus screamed, his voice cracking with emotion as he leaned over his mother.

As the room erupted into chaos, Elena tried to slip toward the exit. But Maria stepped in her way, blocking the door.

"Going somewhere, Elena?"
Maria asked, her voice steadying despite the tears still wet on her cheeks.

Elena glared at her, her voice dripping with venom.

"Get out of my way, you crazy girl. You've ruined my sister's funeral with this circus!"

"It's not a circus, it's an attempted murder,"
Maria declared loudly, drawing the attention of Marcus and the remaining guests. Maria reached into her apron pocket and pulled out the small glass vial she had found in Elena's purse.
"I found this in Elena's bag. It's a clinical paralytic. She drugged Clara's tea because Clara was going to write her out of the will today."

Marcus stared from the vial to his aunt. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall into place. He remembered Elena's insistence on a closed casket and a rushed service without an autopsy.

"Is this true?" Marcus asked, his voice low and dangerous as he approached Elena. Elena stumbled backward, her face drained of color as she looked around for an escape.
