The evening air on the penthouse terrace was crisp, carrying the distant, muffled hum of the city below. The skyline sparkled like a blanket of diamonds, but the atmosphere on the rooftop was suffocatingly tense. Arthur stood rigid, the fabric of his double-breasted black tuxedo feeling suddenly like a straightjacket. He looked at the faces of his closest peers—the people he had built his career with, the people he had trusted with his life.

The Accusation

Sienna, stunning but stone-cold in her dark chocolate gown, took a step forward. Her eyes, usually filled with laughter, were now hollow and unforgiving. Beside her stood Clara, draped in a slate grey evening dress, her posture rigid and accusatory. Three other colleagues lined up behind them like a silent jury ready to deliver a death sentence.

"Did you really think we wouldn't find out, Arthur?" Sienna’s voice cut through the cool night breeze like a blade. "We trusted you. The entire firm trusted you."

Arthur’s heart hammered against his ribs. "What are you talking about? Sienna, Clara, please—tell me what’s going on."

In response, Clara raised her hand, pointing a cold, accusatory finger directly at him. The others followed, their gazes heavy with judgment and disgust. They were branding him a thief, a betrayer of their shared legacy. The weight of their silent condemnation was too much to bear. Arthur’s mind raced, searching for answers, but the sheer force of their hostility paralyzed him.

He covered his face with his hands, trying to shield himself from their piercing stares. The shame, though unearned, washed over him in a devastating wave. His knees trembled, and before he could stop himself, his legs gave out. Arthur buckled, dropping to the dark tiled floor in complete defeat. From his knees, he looked up at his former friends, but there was no mercy in their eyes. Only the cold, unforgiving skyline witnessed his fall.
