Previously: After her wealthy ex-husband got her fired from her supermarket job to steal custody of their daughter, Lauren thought she lost everything—until her brother and an unexpected ally intervened.

The Tables Turn

Before Marcus could open his car door, the silent night was interrupted by the smooth purr of a luxury black limousine. It glided into the parking lot and pulled up directly behind Marcus's sports car, completely blocking him in. The doors opened, and an elegant, silver-haired gentleman in a tailored charcoal suit stepped out. It was Arthur Pendelton, the billionaire founder and CEO of the entire supermarket conglomerate.

Arthur had been visiting the branch unannounced to review security protocols, and he had been sitting in the security office watching the live camera feeds. He had witnessed the entire interaction inside the store—including Marcus knocking over the display, and the store manager, Mr. Davis, accepting a thick envelope from Marcus's fiancée earlier that evening.

"Mr. Davis has just been terminated for gross misconduct and accepting bribes," Arthur announced, his voice calm but carrying an immense, undeniable authority. He walked directly past a stunned Marcus and stood before Lauren. "And you must be Lauren. I watched the footage. You handled yourself with incredible grace under immense pressure."

Marcus’s face turned pale. "Now, hold on a minute, do you know who I am?" he stammered, trying to regain his footing. Arthur turned a cold, piercing gaze toward him.

"I know exactly who you are, young man. And I also know that my company owns the commercial real estate firm that holds the mortgage on your holding company's assets. By tomorrow morning, your loans will be called in. Furthermore, you are officially banned from every property owned by Pendelton Enterprises nationwide."

Turning back to Lauren, Arthur smiled warmly. "Lauren, we are launching a new regional customer relations division. I want you to head it. It comes with a corporate salary, full legal backing from our company attorneys, and corporate housing. What do you say?"

Lauren looked at Greg, who was grinning from ear to ear, and then back to Arthur. Tears of joy replaced her tears of despair. She nodded sob-happily, knowing that Lily was finally safe. True justice had prevailed, proving that those who try to destroy others will ultimately bring about their own ruin.
