My Daughter Cried Alone at Her Dance Until Her Injured Father Burst Through the Doors
Previously: When six-year-old Zoe is left abandoned at her father-daughter dance, her mother uncovers a horrific car accident—and a father's desperate struggle to keep a sacred promise.
Searching for the Truth
Leaving Zoe under the watchful eye of her sister, Sarah sprinted out of the school and into the cool night air. The streets were slick with fresh rain, reflecting the neon signs of the city. She drove toward David’s office, her mind racing with a mixture of burning anger and cold dread. David was a devoted father; he would never simply forget or ignore their daughter on the most important night of her young life.
Two miles from the school, traffic came to a grinding halt. Red and blue emergency lights painted the wet asphalt in pulsing hues. Sarah’s heart sank into her stomach as she slowly rolled past the barricade. There, crushed against a concrete pillar, was David’s silver sedan. The entire front end was pulverized, and paramedics were already packing up their gear.

Panic-stricken, Sarah abandoned her car and ran to the nearest police officer, screaming her husband's name. The officer informed her that the driver had been rushed to the emergency room at General Hospital just moments ago.
She sped to the hospital, tears blurring her vision. When she burst through the emergency room doors, she expected to find David in a hospital bed, surrounded by doctors. Instead, she was met with a bewildered nurse.
"He’s not here, ma'am," the nurse explained, checking her chart. "He was brought in with a severe concussion and lacerations to his face. But the moment he regained consciousness, he became frantic. He kept saying he had a promise to keep. He refused all treatment and fled the hospital on foot before we could stop him."
Sarah stared at her in utter disbelief. David was wandering the streets, severely injured and disoriented, in the middle of a storm. She knew exactly where his fractured mind was trying to take him. She rushed back to her car, praying she wouldn't be too late.
