Previously: Seven-year-old Olivia stood weeping under the gym lights, abandoned at her father-daughter dance. But when a mysterious stranger stepped forward with a folded note, a devastating family secret began to unfold.

A Cruel Ultimatum

Marcus knelt down in front of Olivia, his usually stern face softening with a look of genuine guilt. He slipped a small, folded piece of paper into her hand, whispered a few words, and quickly disappeared into the crowd before I could reach them. I rushed to Olivia’s side, kneeling beside her on the cold wooden floor. Gently, I took the note from her trembling hands and unfolded it. The messy, familiar handwriting belonged to David.

"My sweet Olivia, I am so sorry. I am standing right outside the school gates, but your grandfather's security team won't let me in. They threatened to ruin my business and take away my visitation rights if I step inside. Please know that I love you more than anything, and I am waiting for you out here."

A wave of hot, blinding anger washed over me. My father, Richard, was a powerful billionaire who had always despised David for being a simple mechanic. He had orchestrated our divorce, and now, he was using his power to break our daughter's heart just to satisfy his own pride. I grabbed Olivia’s hand and marched out of the gymnasium, heading straight for the main lobby. Sure enough, my father was standing near the entrance, sipping coffee and chatting casually with the school principal.

I confronted him immediately, holding up the crumpled note. My father merely smiled, a cold, calculating look in his eyes. He pulled me aside and whispered a devastating ultimatum. He told me that if I walked out of those doors to meet David, he would cut me off completely. I would lose my job at his firm, my home, and every financial safety net I had ever known. He expected me to bow to his will, to choose money over the man who truly loved my daughter. But as I looked down at Olivia’s tear-stained face, my decision became instantly clear.
