My Daughter Welcomed Me Home From Prison Only To Plan My Ultimate Betrayal
Previously: After serving five years to protect her daughter, Martha returns home to a beautiful welcome banner—only to discover a dark family secret that threatens her freedom once again.
The Mask Slips
The heavy front door clicked shut, and the transition was instantaneous. The bright, loving daughter vanished. Chloe tossed her phone onto the marble kitchen island and let out a long, dramatic sigh of annoyance. She didn't offer Martha a glass of water or ask how she was feeling. Instead, she poured herself a glass of expensive white wine and leaned against the counter, her eyes cold and calculating.
Martha looked around the spacious living room, and a cold dread settled deep in her chest. The house was beautiful, but it was empty of her past.
"Chloe... where is your father's antique writing desk? And the landscape paintings we had in the dining room?"Martha asked, her voice barely a whisper.

Chloe took a slow sip of her wine.
"I sold them, Mom. We had to renovate the kitchen, and those old things didn't fit the aesthetic. Besides, you were in prison. You didn't need them."
The cruelty of the words struck Martha like a physical blow.
"I was in prison for you!"Martha gasped, tears finally spilling over her wrinkled cheeks.
"I took the blame so your life wouldn't be ruined!"
Chloe walked over, pulling a thick stack of legal documents from her designer handbag. She slid them across the counter toward Martha.
"And I appreciate that, Mom. Truly. But you're an ex-con now. You can't manage your own affairs. I need you to sign these power of attorney papers. We've arranged a lovely, quiet place upstate where you can be taken care of."
"A state asylum,"Martha said, her voice hardening.
"Andrew told me. You want to lock me away so I can never tell the truth."
Chloe’s eyes narrowed into slits.
"If you don't sign those papers by tonight, I'll call the police. I'll tell them you're mentally unstable and threatened to kill me. Who do you think they'll believe? A respected charity donor, or a convicted felon?"
Just then, Chloe's phone rang, and she stepped out of the room to take the call. Left alone in the kitchen, Martha felt utterly defeated. But then, Andrew quickly walked in. Without a word, he slipped a small, black USB drive into her trench coat pocket, gave her a pleading look, and vanished back into the hallway.
