Chloe hesitantly took the document from Max's trembling hands. As her eyes scanned the elegant cursive letters at the top of the page, her breath caught. It was a deed of transfer. Max hadn't bought the bakery to profit from her pain. The document legally transferred 100% ownership of the property back to Chloe, fully paid off, with all past debts cleared.

"Max, what is this?" Vanessa shrieked, trying to grab the paper, but Max stepped between them.

"Our engagement is over, Vanessa," Max said, his voice firm and unwavering. "I only went along with your father's investment group to secure the funds to buy this place back from the bank before they demolished it. But I'm done playing games. This bakery belongs to Chloe. It always has."

Vanessa's face twisted in rage. Realizing she had lost both Max and her leverage, she threw her designer bag over her shoulder and stormed down the street, her heels clicking angrily against the pavement. Silence fell over the golden sidewalk.

Chloe looked up from the deed, tears streaming down her face. "Why, Max? You left me when I needed you most. I was so alone."

"Because I was a coward, and I let my family convince me that your debts would ruin us," Max confessed, stepping closer, his eyes filled with genuine remorse. "I've regretted it every single day. I don't expect you to forgive me, Chloe. But I wanted to give you your life back. The keys are inside."

Chloe looked at the key taped to the back of the deed, then at the bakery window, and finally at Max.
