Previously: When Chloe ran into her ex-fiancé Max outside her family's old bakery, she expected a painful confrontation. Instead, a shocking secret about who really owned the property changed her life forever.

The Ultimate Betrayal

Before Chloe could demand an explanation, the bakery door swung open. A young woman draped in designer clothes stepped out, holding a box of pastries. It was Vanessa, Chloe’s former best friend who had abandoned her the moment her bank accounts emptied. Vanessa wrapped her arm around Max’s, flashing a massive diamond ring.

"Oh, Max, is this your little ex-girlfriend?" Vanessa sneered, looking Chloe up and down with a triumphant smile. "Tell her who owns this place now, darling."

Chloe felt a physical pain in her chest. She looked at Max, expecting him to join in on the mockery. Instead, he looked utterly miserable. He avoided her gaze, staring down at the concrete.

"I bought the bakery, Chloe," Max muttered softly. "I bought it six months ago."

The revelation shattered whatever strength Chloe had left. The man who had abandoned her because of her family's debts had used his wealth to buy her late mother's legacy, and now he was running it with the woman who had betrayed her. Tears of anger and grief stung her eyes as she stared at the two people who had hurt her most, standing in front of the place she loved most.

"How could you?" Chloe gasped. "You knew what this place meant to me!"

"It's business, Chloe," Vanessa chimed in. "And honestly, we're doing a much better job than your family ever did."

But Max suddenly pulled his arm away from Vanessa's grip. "Shut up, Vanessa," he snapped. He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a folded legal document, holding it out to Chloe. "Please, just open it. I didn't buy this for Vanessa. I bought it for you."
